Over the years, this school has been actively involved in philanthropy, reaching out to the community through various service learning projects. In addition to the district’s commitment to support the United Way, Houston has promoted Relay for Life for many years.
We have collected money to benefit pediatric oncology patients through both the Zig the Pig program and Pennies for Patients. Houston Student Council members have spearheaded collections of canned goods for food banks, assembled food and supplies for the Humane Society and other Animal Rescue Organizations, and have stocked the pantry at the local Children’s Shelter. Students show their appreciation for both active and retired members of the military by writing letters to deployed soldiers and through a Veteran’s Day program that honors both veterans and active members of the military.
