Principal's Message

Hello and welcome to Houston Elementary School, home of the Huskies!
My name is Mark Hendry and I’m excited and honored to serve as your new principal.
The 2014-2015 school year will be my twenty-third in education and ninth year as an elementary school principal.
Originally from Florida, my family and I moved to South Carolina back in 1999. My wife, Kendra, is a high school English teacher and we are the proud parents of two children. Hayden, my son, recently graduated from the Citadel and our daughter, Haley, will be a sophomore at Clemson University this year. Our family is thrilled to be joining the Houston family!

7 Shares, Cares and DARES!
Primed with excitement and sporting their pride, the District 7 team of teachers and staff donned their individual school colors and celebrated the start of a new academic year with the annual back-to-school program known as 7Shares on Thursday, August 14. The 1200 employees of the District packed the Spartanburg High School gym for a morning of inspiration, motivation, and recognition.
Bobbi Kennedy, Special Projects Director with ETV, brought special recognition to Adam Babcock, technology integration specialist at Spartanburg High School, for being named a 2014 PBS LearningMedia Digital Innovator. After a nationwide search, Adam was selected as one of only 100 educators from across the country and the only one in South Carolina. He was chosen for his passion and commitment to innovative teaching practices that integrate digital media and technology in the classroom.
Praised for their commitment in the classroom, 13 teachers were honored as the top educator in their school with the District Teacher of the Year award going to Marquice Clark from the Cleveland Academy of Leadership. Eleven first-year teachers were also honored for outstanding performance during their induction year. Leslie Sloan from Spartanburg High School was awarded the Crystal Apple - the top award for a new teacher.
