Principal’s Message

Welcome to Houston Elementary School. I am excited about the opportunities our school provides to its students.

The faculty and administration of Houston will focus on Learning and Growing Together in all classes. We are implementing Common Cores State Standards in Grades K-2 , and our instruction will be rigorous and engaging. Our Curriculum Coordinator has developed a school wide instructional goal which focuses on professional learning com-munities and connections to literacy.

Our fine arts and club involvement continue to grow in participation and excellence in performance and expectations. We are excited about the experiences that this school year will bring. Our students, teachers, and parents take great pride in our school and its success. It is also my hope that you will use our website on a regular basis. It contains an abundance of information about programs and calendars as well as other items of great significance relevant to our school. A parent portal is also available to monitor your child’s grades and attendance. Please sign up in our front office.

Our school theme this year is “Learning and Growing Together!” We believe the time our students spend at Houston is a special opportunity to provide them with the tools for success as they prepare for their futures. We also want them to develop pride in our school and we hope that through a total school program of academics, fine arts and clubs their journey will be fun, challenging, and successful.

Assistant Principal’s Greeting:

Welcome to the new school year and our focus on Learning and Growing Together! We want you to know that we have an open door policy and that you may contact or come see me at any time to discuss concerns you may have. I work with instruction, discipline, and administrative duties all under the direction of our principal, Tommy Stokes and according to our student handbook guidelines and state laws and standards. Our mission at Houston Elementary School is to provide a quality, student-centered education. We are excited about the upcoming school year and all of the wonderful educational opportunities that lie ahead for our students. Our school-wide theme for 2012-2013, "Learning and Growing Together", will serve as a unifying tie among our school family as we work to provide the perfect individualized path to help every child achieve success. Do your best each day, be here and on time, and have a wonderful Husky day!

Lots 2 Give Contest through Big Lots!

You can help our school by donating $1.00 or $5.00 now through July 7th at participating Big Lots stores. 100% of these donations go to Houston Elementary. The two stores closest to Houston are 1000 N Pine St and 204 Cedar Springs Rd. Please contact us if you have any questions! Thanks

April Pillar of Character: Responsibility

Responsibility is doing what you are supposed to do. Responsible people think ahead, set reasonable goals, control their tempers and always do their best. They don't give up easily, especially when others are counting on them. They are accountable for the consequences of their choices; they don't blame others for their mistakes.
